So, roughly 2 weeks ago or so I'm just milling around Sholozar Basin on my poorly geared Druid alt, essentially wasting time gathering herbs as seems par for the course these days (as far as World of Warcraft is concerned). I'm coasting around the Basin, notice a herb ripe for the picking and begin to drop altitude as I close in on the open node. Surprisingly, I see the dreaded 'that item is already in use' message that signals that some other slob has tapped the node before I managed to. The problem is, is that there is absolutely no one in sight-- no one. A quick press of the tab key and I'm now targeting a level 61 Night Elf Priest that has obviously mastered the art of burrowing underground. The toon in question then sprints off at an incredible speed and that's that.
I couldn't help but laugh. Hackers hacking gold is what it all boils down to, and while funny, it is all a bit unsavory. This site is about examining methods of how to make gold in WoW, and determining or commenting on their legitimacy. This method is definitely profitable and efficient (and sleazy and gaming the market, etc.), but it's also completely off limits for your average player. Doing this would surely result in a permanent ban from Warcraft and we don't want that now do we? No, the prime beneficiaries of this practice are in fact the gold farmers and farming companies that have managed to keylog and hack the accounts of unsuspecting mopes. The toon fulfills its purpose of mining or procuring massive amounts of materials before eventually being struck by the banhammer; unfortunately it's too late at that point and the damage to the overall state of the game's economy has been done.
It should be clear the potential damage such hackers pose as they now have the capability of flooding the market with their ill gotten goods. The supply becomes over-saturated, driving demand into the ground and reducing those who legitimately sell goods and materials on the auction house to tears. Lower level ore and herbs can be monopolized by these farmers, driving up prices and arresting the natural leveling of gathering professions by green players. So, is there a solution to this gold hacking problem?
Not really, other than faster response times to reports of these toons on Blizzard's behalf. More rigid level requirements can be tacked on to gathering professions, but it won't do anything to address the farming of low level gathering materials. It will also only serve to shift the focus to using hacked level 80 toons as harvesters. As long as these keyloggers, farming companies, etc. are able to maintain their high rate of nicked accounts, there will never be a way to bottleneck such unscrupulous behavior. Total elimination is impossible, but at least there should be hope that a greater alertness will be enough to prevent a further explosion in tricks that exist to exploit the World of Warcraft gold economy as well as the playerbase. If only every damn player could be as swell as WOWHobbs...
As a quick aside, WoW Tips should have a full review of a rather well-known gold making strategy guide (that actually costs money!) in the Warcraft fan sphere soon.

WoW Tips: Timewarp with WOWHobbs And His World of Warcraft Gold Making Online Videos
Katzelmacher
When I think of Wowhobbs (or Hobbs, but I find that the former is charmingly self-effacing for some bizarre reason) I can't help but immediately link the man to Bob Ross; I mean, there's a fuzzy, quaint, and ancient yet timelessly backwards quality to both.
The lulling nature is welcome, especially with regards to the World of Warcraft "quick and easy gold making guide" community. Hobbs videos are of a humble sort, at least his more primitive early clips that focused primarily on speed runs through various mid level dungeons(Scarlet Monastery being THE favorite), both for gold making purposes (selling junk loot, disenchanting unneeded blues/greens, etc.) and for powerleveling low-level guildmates and friends.
Here was a guy, obviously undergeared, who was able to farm ridiculous amounts of gold on his paladin through seemingly endless runs of SM. Of course speed instance runs have always been havens for producing steady streams of income for prot specced paladins. The strategy was incredibly simple-- toss on damage on hit gear, round up a ton of mobs, and AOE the hell out of them, bubbling when things got particularly hairy. And hey, some kids in obvious need of assistance get a quick level along with shiny new gear! An unbeatable combination to appear like a beacon of altruism while profiting at the same time. While Wowhobbs provided (which is in the past tense for a reason) warm and inviting little videos, they don't prove to be of incredible use for a few reasons: The videos are narrow in focus obviously, but the actual strategies for producing new streams of gold revenue themselves are mind-numbingly apparent to any player that has delved into the protection tree.

Unfortunately, Hobbs has transformed into a raiding "deity" as of late and his videos have become stale and dry, focusing mostly on drawn out attempts to slay various bosses in Ulduar or whatever. Nonetheless, Wowhobbs is not specifically selling anything and his old guide like gold making and powerleveling friends videos and "aw,shucks!" huckleberry attitude are still nostalgic remnants of the overall World of Warcraft brand universe, which is still more than enough of a reason for WoW Tips to issue an immediate recommendation to seek out his channel on YouTube for purely recreational purposes.

WoW Tips: A Portal Into Viable Gold and Powerleveling Guides for World of Warcraft
Hello, I'm Jones and I'd like to welcome you to WoW Tips. So, cutting directly to the chase, what is the general purpose of this newly formed blog? It may seem self explanatory-- providing tips and tricks on efficient powerleveling, legitimate gold making methods, etc. to Warcraft fans-- but it goes a little bit deeper than that. See, there are seemingly endless products and guides floating around out there that promise to deliver the secrets on how to make gold in WoW or how to powerlevel to 80 in the span of 24 hours (exaggeration is king, right?), or the most efficient way with regards to Horde or Alliance leveling.
Now, being the skeptic that I am, I've always found myself to be wary of hype; at the same time, it's unfair to pass judgment when the opportunity to experience is readily available. So, ultimately, I've decided to create WoW Tips as a way of relaying my firsthand experiences with some of the World of Warcraft guides floating around to you, the reader, as a way to determine the worth of some of these highly marketed gold and leveling guides. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the mission statement or World of Warcraft in general please shoot me an e-mail at agirlisagun@gmail.com
